Safe Haven: Children’s Home Dedication Marks a Proud Achievement

 

PRESS DEMOCRAT In considering what it means to dedicate the new Valley of the Moon Children's Home this week, it is instructive to consider what used to be. For too long, neglected and abused children from Sonoma County were trapped in facilities that some described as an embarrassment and others described as a disgrace.

In county government, from the Board of Supervisors to the staff of the children's home, everyone was frustrated by the existence of substandard housing for the county's neediest children, but no one could find the money to generate a solution.
